Robert
Gelman is an author, editor, musician, interactive media developer, and
producer of large events, including conferences, tradeshows, and festivals.
He has also held senior marketing positions and consultancies with leading
publishing and software companies.
As a conference/tradeshow
professional, he has held senior positions with Cahners Exposition Group,
Miller Freeman Expositions, and Ambit International, as well as consulting
contracts with IDG World Expo, Key3Media, CMP Events, Advanstar, and others.
He was the co-founder and producer of the seminal CyberArts International Conferences and Festivals, producer
of the Digital Be-In and
many other unique events in the art/technology realm.
Gelman has served as a judge for the Global
Information Infrastructure Awards, and was named a "Seybold Fellow"
by the Seybold Conference and Publishing
organization. He is a member of the advisory boards of YLEM, the association for art and technology; Computers & You, the inner-city
learning center for the underprivileged; and was instrumental in the establishment
of The Northwest
Cyberartists (Seattle).
His company, BG & Associates was the provider of audio and text-based content for companies such as Mindscape Entertainment, Disney, Electronic
Arts, and America Online. In partnership
with Verbum, Inc, he was Senior Internet
producer for their Studio-V web development team and other web-based ventures,
such as Radio-V .
He was also affiliated with Thomas Dolby Robertson's Beatnik, Inc. where he produced
original online content, and evangelizes the Internet industry on interactive
audio technology.
His writings appear in publications such as Keyboard and The San Francisco
Chronicle and Examiner, and the Verbum
Journal. He served as contributing editor to InterActivity
Magazine and contributed regularly to its sister publication, Music
& Computers. He is also the main author of the book,
"Protecting
Yourself Online" (HarperCollins) in conjunction with the Electronic
Frontier Foundation.
His educational background includes four years at California State University,
Northridge and additional studies at UCLA, majoring in Business Administration,
